What an electrical quote needs so it gets accepted

The customer reads three things: the total, what they get, and whether they trust you. Everything else is for you.

About a 3-minute read

  1. What they get, in their words

Scope lines that describe the outcome (“Kitchen: 6 double power points, 8 LED downlights on two switched groups”) beat part numbers. Group by room or by stage — the way they picture the job.

Customer view of the quote: two lines and a subtotal, with no cost or margin columns.
In Knack: what the customer sees. The lines, a subtotal and GST.
  2. One clear total, GST stated

Show the total excluding GST, then the total including GST underneath. A builder reads the first line and a homeowner reads the second, and nobody finds 15% added at the end.

  3. Options as options

Anything genuinely optional (the extra camera, the EV charger, the heated towel rail circuit) goes in as a selectable item with its own price, not folded into the total. It makes the base price smaller and the quote feel like theirs.

  4. Exclusions and assumptions, plainly

Access, making good, consents, anything you'll find behind the gib. A short list here is the difference between a variation and an argument.

  5. Validity and terms

How long the price holds, your payment terms, and your terms of trade linked rather than pasted.

  6. A way to say yes right now

A PDF that needs printing, signing and scanning is a quote that waits for the weekend. A link they can open on the phone, pick their options, and accept against a declaration gets a same-day answer — and gives you a record of exactly what was agreed.

The acceptance form: full name, email, the declaration and one checkbox.
In Knack: one declaration, one checkbox, on the customer's phone.
  7. Your branding, your licence details

Your practising licence number, company name and contact details are trust signals, so put them on every quote. The CoC that follows the work is signed off by whoever does it, under their own licence number.

Where Knack fits

Every quote Knack sends is built from these parts: sections the customer reads by room or stage, GST shown, options they tick, your exclusions and terms, your branding, and one link they open on the phone to accept against a declaration.
