Quoting shouldn't
follow you home.

Joe · Founder of Knack · Auckland, NZ

Hi, I'm Joe. I run an electrical and security business in Auckland, and I built Knack because I couldn't find the tool I needed.

Quoting was always the part of the job I dreaded. I'd walk the site, fill pages with notes and take a stack of photos, then spend half the evening at the kitchen table trying to turn it all into something I could send. By then, the kids were in bed and I was piecing the job back together from scribbles and camera roll photos.

Every piece of software I tried seemed to handle quoting or plan takeoffs, but never both properly. I still had to join everything together myself.

Voice was what changed things for me. I was already using voice to text to get ideas out of my head without stopping to type. One day it occurred to me that quoting could work the same way.

Instead of scribbling notes, I could talk through the job as I walked the site, room by room. Knack could turn that into a draft scope while everything was still fresh. Less typing, fewer forgotten details, and no trying to remember what photo number 37 was meant to show.

The plan and the quote should work together.

On most of our jobs, the plan is where the scope really takes shape. If I mark ten downlights on a drawing, those ten downlights should flow straight into the quote. I shouldn't have to count them once on the plan and then enter them all again somewhere else.

That's why I built the takeoff and quote as one connected workflow. Mark up the plan, build the takeoff and see it reflected in the quote as you go.

I started building Knack last year alongside real jobs, running the business and raising a young family with my wife. Every feature gets tested on actual work before it ships. If it doesn't save time or make the quote clearer, it doesn't stay.

Knack is made for electricians and security installers who want to spend less time catching up on paperwork at night. If quoting keeps following you home, give it a try. I hope it gives you some of that time back.
